Some more time exploring Kauai while waiting for the hurricane

Some more fun checking out the sites of Kauai.  It is possible we may still be doing a fun race of some sort tomorrow (Saturday) out of Hanalei Bay.  We will keep you posted.

Na Pali Crews practice - Thursday, August 7th, 2014

Unfortunately the Na Pali Challenge race has been cancelled  because of two pending hurricanes,  Iselle and Julio that are expected to hit the Hawaiian island on Friday August 8th and Sunday August 10.   Luckily we have been able to get several practices in at the Kaiola Canoe Club in Lihue  (same place where we did the mangrove clean-up).  With the race off we have been able to spend more time enjoying the island.

Hawaii keeps a watchful eye on Hurricane Iselle

In addition to exciting racing it looks like we will be experiencing some exciting weather in Kauai as well. Hurricane Iselle, currently category 4 status, is expected to be downgraded to tropical storm status before it reaches the Hawaiian Islands on Friday. You can find out more about the storm here.

One week countdown to Kauai !

We'll be racing along this beautiful stretch of Kauai coastline
The combined Na Pali crews from ORPC and VOS are in our final week of pre-race training before heading to Kauai next week.  While in Kauai, we will be training at the Kukui'ula Outrigger Canoe Club, located on the south shore near famous Poipu Beach.

This blog will be updated more frequently once we leave BC next week so don't forget to check back regularly to monitor our progress.
